Year 3

As we end this academic year, it is with great pride that we can look back at the many achievements of the children. They have worked very hard and met the many challenges with great confidence.

The many values that have been on display throughout the year have particularly come to the fore: resilience when tackling a particularly tricky problem whether it is in class or a problem between friends; courage in coping with changes; honesty towards all members of the school community; appreciation and happiness for each other and all the opportunities they are given within the school.

This term our focus for Science has been Biological Sciences. We have been looking at Living and Non-Living things. The students have been learning about the different features of living things and the different groupings and classifications involved. On our excursion to the Werribee Open Range Zoo the students learnt about the structural features of carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. The students had the opportunity to discuss the difference between predator and prey. They also enjoyed going on the safari tour looking at the animals in their natural habitat.

The students have been focusing on Poetry for Literacy this term. They have looked at the structure of different types of poems and the different figurative language techniques used by poets to make poetry more interesting. They have tried to apply this to their own poetry writing. The students have been very creative in collating their own poems in their Poetry Booklets.

In Numeracy, students have been looking at using different techniques in order to solve worded problems. They have looked at their different features of 2D and 3D shapes and objects and improved their understanding of finding the area of various shapes.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our students for their hard work this year. We would also like to extend our thanks to parents and carers for their support this year. A great deal of what we do at school cannot be achieved without your help, support and cooperation.

Finally, we would like to wish all children who are leaving us at the end of this academic year all the very best on their journey. We know that they have all had a great time here at Sirius College and know that they will go on to achieve great things in the future.

Have a wonderful and safe summer holiday. We look forward to seeing you all again in the future.

Best of Wishes 3A & 3B
